To Vermont

FinallyWe burrowed through New York and its traffic, deciding to stop at Manchester Center, VT, at the Aspen Motel. We enjoyed dinner at Seasons Restaurant. Jim had turkey burger, Dianne had linguini, broccoli, and chicken breast. Both had Battenkill Ale. All was very delicious. Thanks to the chuck box and cooler, the pasta lasted for another lunch, and a dinner for two.

We headed out on the highway north from Manchester, stopping for some sights. We browsed The Vermont Country Store. We arrived at Gifford Woods State Park. Hiked a small piece of the Appalachian Trail, and Jim cooked a dinner of leftovers. As twilight grew, the black flies and mosquitoes gathered. We headed for bed.

Plymouth VT, birth place of Calvin Coolidge. Smelling the lilacs. They are far more pungent in the East.

Snow in June! Yes, at Killington, VT.

Jim's dad's ski lodge is now a collection of shops. He says, "The structure is still the same. I remember it, arriving after a long icy drive over the New York State Thruway on my return from Indiana where I was studying Cell Biology at Purdue University."

From Killington we found camping a couple of miles north on the Long Trail. From there it was a scenic tour over hill and dale to Middlebury.
